B-B-and-T, Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, and the City of Seneca are examples of organizations that allow the Oconee United Way to fill the needs of the community. A police officer whose family instilled in her the need to help others gave the official welcome yesterday for the kickoff meeting of the 2012 United Way campaign. Sgt. Lisa Williams gave credit to her late aunt, Harriett Garrett, a former director of Oconee AID Association. Williams says the police station, located on North Depot Street downtown, often becomes a front line for those in need of help. In turn, she says, both the police department and city government in general have been generous financial donors to United Way.
