Two Pickens County private citizens are being recognized this week with a plaque and remarks of appreciation for coming to the aid of a sheriff’s deputy, attempting to arrest a suspect. On September 10 at a convenience store, Master Deputy Scott Ticknor approached a suspect, for whom a felony warrant had been issued. According to the Sheriff’s Department, a gun was pulled by the suspect and shots fired. Two citizens at the store, David Bryan Owens and Bobby Lee Laws Jr. assisted Tichnor in apprehending the suspect during a struggle, “with little thought for their own safety.” Owens and Laws were honored at a luncheon yesterday and received appreciation from Sheriff David Stone.
