A resolution, signed by Oconee County Council Chairman Joel Thrift, proclaims Oconee County a Purple Heart County in South Carolina. A total of 210 county residents lost their lives in the armed conflicts since 1898 and a large number have been awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. The resolution also notes the county today is home to highly-decorated military members, both active and retired.
