The NFL’s regular season will open next week with replacement officials being used, and the league said it is ready to use them as much as necessary after that. Negotiations between the NFL and the Referees Association union are at a standstill, with talks essentially having gone nowhere since the officials were locked out in early June by the NFL. Replacement officials have been used throughout the preseason.
