Hurricane Sandy

The S.C Department of Transportation is monitoring wind conditions along the coast due to Hurricane Sandy. In the event that winds reach a sustained 25 mph on the coast, there is a possibility that swing bridges and draw bridges in Horry, Berkeley, Charleston, and Beaufort counties may be closed to maritime traffic. Wind speeds that meet or exceed 25 mph have a significant effect on swing bridge and draw bridge operations, and during high wind conditions these bridges will not be raised or swung open to allow oversized boats to pass.
