Crews from the state Department of Transportation are involved in two rural Oconee County bridge projects. When completed, one of those projects will allow for the lifting of a detour now several months old north of West Union. Mike Smith, resident maintenance engineer for the DOT, said the Burns Mill Road Bridge is being replaced. Near Westminster, crews are rehabilitating the United Church Road Bridge over Toxaway Creek and hope to have that work completed by the end of the week.
