Brought to you by 96.3 WGOG
Will be held on July 26,2008
At The Walhalla Civic Auditorium
We have
received twenty five paid entry forms, Therefore, no more entry forms will be
accepted.
Thank you.
Registration
will be limited to the first 25 paid applications received.
If you are planning to enter our 6th
Annual 96.3 WGOG Colgate Country Showdown, please read the following information
before you send in your entry form and fee. Official rules can be found
at
www.colgatecountryshowdown.com .
Our local contest is on Saturday, July 26 at
7pm at the Walhalla Civic
Auditorium in Walhalla, SC. The deadline to enter is
July 11, 2008 OR when we receive 25 paid entries, whichever comes first.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT......If you should be declared the
winner of our local contest, you will be expected to move on and compete in the
State Level Showdown Contest at Wild Bill’s in Atlanta, GA on either September
19 or 26, 2008 (date is yet to be finalized). If for some reason you do not
think that you would be able to fulfill that obligation, please do not enter our
local contest.
Now, for the details about our local contest. On July 26, we
will begin checking-in contestants at
5:30pm.
There's no need
to be there before then, but please be there no later
6:15pm.
Each contestant will perform one (1) number.
No practices or sound checks. Everyone’s voice level and
music track is different, and it would be impossible to attempt to pre-set
levels for each contestant. We have hired professional sound techs that will
provide their own equipment for the show. They will make necessary adjustments
during your performance. You will not be judged on technical issues with the
sound equipment. If you are entering as a “band”, you will have to adapt to the
sound equipment that we are providing. In fairness to the other contestants, we
cannot make any special provisions for bands.
Following our official “welcome” to the audience, we would
like for each “act” to come on stage one-by-one and introduce yourself, where
you’re from, and if you desire, say a very short word about yourself. This is an
effort to at least allow everyone a chance to be on stage in front of the
audience before actually performing for the judges. Please keep your
introduction as short as possible. We will go in alphabetical order for these
introductions as well as for the performances. After the first 8 contestants
have performed, we'll have a short intermission, then the next 8 will perform.
After that, we will take another short break before the final 9 acts perform.
After everyone has performed, the judge’s scores will be added and we will name
a runner-up and a winner. Remember, in a competition like this, there is
only one act that wins the right to
advance to the next level, and the judges' decision is final. So, don't worry
about it being a competition. Just go on stage and help us put on a great
country music show!
If you are using a pre-recorded soundtrack, and most folks
usually do, just bring it with you when you check-in on July 26. The soundtrack
should be on a cd. No cassettes, please. If it is on a cd that you
have burned yourself, please make sure that it works and that there is not a lot
of “dead” space before the music starts. We don't need to know any song titles,
but we do need to indicate on the judges' forms if it is an original song (one
that you wrote).
Now, for those of you that need directions. We usually have
folks coming from a lot of different areas, so, assuming that you can get to
Walhalla, SC...from
Main Street
in downtown, which is officially S.C. Hwy. 28, take Hwy. 183 toward Pickens,
SC., then take the first left, which is
W. North Broad Street.
You immediately go up a big hill and the Walhalla Civic Auditorium will be on
your right. It is a big, red-brick building with a sign over the main entrance.
If you bring family and friends, and we hope you do, please
remind them that admission is $6 per person at the door. Tell them to hold on to
their ticket stubs as we'll be giving away door prizes. All seating is first
come, first serve, but the auditorium seats around 450, so we should have plenty
of room. Please remember, only the contestants are admitted for free.
Also, there is no food or drink allowed inside the auditorium, and of course, it
is smoke-free. We will have refreshments backstage for the contestants.
